I'm in denial.

Perhaps I'll post something positive, full of best wishes for future endeavors & shit later, when I'm feeling more mature, but right now I'm just trying not to stomp my feet, wail like a brat & scream "NOoooo!" It's not a pretty sight.

Joy .... I , must admit > I feel the same way right now. It feels selfish, but I feel it, none-the-less. The knot in my stomach like Annie talked about. Sorry Anders.

I've said this so many times: Whenever I walk into Brownie's and Anders' has a sub, the level of the show immediately drops a few notches for me ... and I so love Ronnie and Jim, etc. But that's just how it is for me. \

I cannot imagine this band without Anders - bad enuf we losy Mikey.

I know how you feel EZ...As this band has gone in the years and years i have seen them, This is one of the lowest points for me anyway. When Tom Davis left I didn't think anyone could replace him. But then came Tom Donovan. All was good. Actually great.Of course then the year or so leading up to Tom Davis leaving were tough years for the band. Then when Mikey B came the band took off. Those years where we sold out Sellersville , the World Cafe a few times...all the other venues, some good, some bad.We went to almost every show we could.Brownies was packed almost every week. You wouldn't miss a Thursday for the world. Those years 2006,2007,08 were just out of this world. Anders said to me once it was alive and growing, he couldn't explain it.We were all growing and the family was just incredible. Then Arron left, then Tom Donovan left.I love Mike Kennedy and Jamie, but Tom Donovan was the man.I will never forget his World Cafe show .He brought the place down that night, the whole band did.that's the difference, The whole band Played as one.Lately I don't feel that from the band.Mikey B. was just incredible. Mikey sang with such emotion and from his heart , now he has gone. And no one has come close to replacing him yet.He sang us an anniversary song last year like it was his own.Anders was always on.He kept the energy up the best he could. Now with Anders leaving, a void that can never be filled.Sure they can still rock ,but something is missing lately........something......

Wow, early retirement.

This it truly sad news. Maybe in some ways I felt like it was coming. As Curtis said, it takes a long time for band members to become a cohesive unit, learning playing styles etc. When the core becomes something shifting and amorphous, it has to make it more like work and less like fun.

Ah well, 13 years is a long time...we certainly got our money's worth. :-D I'm thinking maybe Anders just wants to focus on the World Cup this summer.

June 24th: hmm . . . Other One? :roflmao: Thanks Anders for all you've done. It's been quite a ride. See you in the audience!

So my bowing, tin whistling comrad is moving on..I feel like its my fault, since I haven't been there to bow in so many days months and shows  But what I will remember is the amazing 13 years you brought a groove of unmearsurable proportions to my soul and a wing span of a smile to my face - while on and off the stage. I will carry you with me always Anders, as a musician and authentic human being; and hope for the day you will sneak out to one of my shows with tin whistles in hand - it would be an honor!

Blessings to you and yours in this life and music transition and........

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

Your friend always,
Mike Brill

Anders,

I never really got to know you since I was only hear in PA since November. I've only seen SS 10X since then and I figured that I'd have time to get to know everyone in the band over time. I guess I was wrong on that account. I've followed many a band over the years and each time that someone leaves a band, its like everyone is losing a family member. While we always wish the best, and of course wish you that, our lives will be void of your presence, and that is a tough pill to swallow. Needless to say, the bands always find a willing person to fill your shoes and over time, we will befriend the new addition and welcome him into the family. Still, we are each unique, and the uniqueness that you brought to this band will never be matched. I have seen how you interacted with others on stage, as opposed to just playing your instrument and that was one thing that I always felt set you apart. And some of the moments you provided were, well, quite amazing and something that just wouldnt show up on a setlist, you just had to be there! Anyway, I plan on catching a few more shows before the 24th, so I'll be sure to stop by and say hi.
Best wishes at whatever you decide to do in life and most of all, be safe in all your endeavors.

Fare Ye Well, Anders,

Mike Phillips

WOW...where to begin on this subject..ANDERS....you will truly be missed...I remember when you used to play with Living Earth...when you came to Splintered I was very excited..because I knew you'd blend in quite well Tommy Davis and Butchy.
I'm sorry if I'm quite upset about this...After 13 yrs I thought you were a portion of the core of this band that would be difficult to replace ( if that was what was needed)...Your playing is inspiring and majestic...you lead without taking the "lead", which is where the true genius is. In my opinion, only a few professional musicians currently playing have that ability to lead a band without ever taking the "lead"...Phil Lesh, Chris Squire, John Entwhistle, Stanley Clarke...are a few examples of bass genius.....I THINK WE NEED TO ADD ANDERS TO THIS LIST...because ANDERS you do this..each and everytime I see you in the last 10 yrs or so...SO AGAIN ANDERS DID I TELL YOU YOU WILL BE MISSED!!!!
Truly I am speachless about this change coming June 24th ...

Whatever the personal reasons behind this decision are your own...but I hope your not going to crush a healthly spritual addiction (playing in the band)...that would make many folks sad and would eventually be something Anders..that YOU will regret doing.
I'll be back with more to say if needed...miss u and you havent left yet..wow this is going to be tough

Well, I for one can say, there has been one too many GoodBye messages on this board the past 3 years. Sorry to see another wonderful person leave the band. But, the one thing we can always count on is change. Change is good and it creates growth in a positive enviornment. So, while you will be missed, Anders. Splintered faithful will manage as you pursue your future endeavors.

A guest appearance once in a while, would be very cool!!

Thanks, Anders. All the best.

I need to let you know something though...I turn 40 in 2.5 years and I have been telling my wife that I would like Splintered to play for my birthday....so, that will have to mean a temporary leave from retirement February 2013.

And thank you.............for a real good time!

And I thought the environmental disaster in the gulf was bad...............well at least with this we are all left with lots of good vibes, good memories, good times, lots of new friends, brothers, sisters, and new families. We also have created the next generation of Splintered Sunlight fans. Anders is an excellent and well diverse musician and leader. In many ways a pied piper. How else do you get an environment named after you with "Anders Alley"????? And a 1st ballot nomination for "The Cooperstown of Life".......Thank you for the 13 years :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D P.S...."4 more years.....4 more years....4 more years.....4 more years"
