Fun~d~raiser...help appreciated for a SS family project...

Postby DashikiJoe » Tue Feb 24, 2009 1:03 am

Grateful Greetings, Family and Friends!!
As you may recall, just prior to the Christ in Christmas/holiday season we had a lively discussion about adding to Splintered Sunlight's equipment inventory one properly accessorized, compatible recorder for taping shows, primarily when Sir Pujol is unavailable or otherwise needs a well-deserved break! Through some communications between those in the know who and how, we settled on a unit just like Marc's, and got about a hundred dollar discount....hmmmmm, i wonder if anyone thought of checking ebay???, maybe we can do even better.... Alas, with the holiday$$$$$$ upon us, and the economy hurting, it just wasnt a "good" time to go soliciting donations to the cause. Like it's any better now, what with $100 dead tix, phish tix, festival tix....etc..., but hey, with the stimulus package passed, and tax returns coming in, the bucks should be flowing anytime now, right?!! So there's no pressure, no hurry, but if the mood strikes you, I will restart collecting some donation$ from anyone who cares!! I will update the list of donors as we go, and though I am keeping a tally of who donated what for transparent accountability, the amounts will not be posted....and for that matter if you request me for whatever reason not to post your name, then I'll list an anonymous donor designation. The shows just keep getting hotter and hotter...too hot to handle now!!! Each show is packed with gems, and while nothing lasts forever....recordings should last just long enough! Thank you for your kind attention and support!

Thank you for your interest in donating. Please...these people on the list have ALREADY donated. I will add your name after I receive your donation....I do not need/nor want a list where I have to go track down names later....thank you for your kindness and intentions.

Just a short update...we currently have $140 in the kitty, with quite a few offering to kick in as well. Currently, through the good graces of St. Steven, we are experimenting with his recorder and the possibility of picking up memory cards/mikes which would be more compatible with downloading to archives. I've not been pushing due to economy, and current state of flux with regard to spending plan. Between Marc P, and Steven and Frank, we are making excellent strides in having at least one recorder operating during every Brownies show...woohoo!! Thanks, and stay tuned for future updates!!

Grateful greetings, Monique and all!!
Thanks for resurrecting this thread! I've been noticeable absent   on this fine board for awhile, due to ever expanding need to devote more time to work and some really kewl projects at work, as well as on the home front! Was very disappointed to see a few stellar shows go untaped...you see, they're all stellar, they all offer their own uniqueness, so every show that goes untaped IS by definition, a stellar show!! Truthfully, just didnt like the timing of this 'project' with so many people having it financially difficult, so it was simply put on hold. With our fearless and full of hope leader assuring us the economy is heading back in the right direction, the next phase should get going.
As stated last, the kitty has $140.00, though their are 8 people on the list...I accidentally gave one person his $20 back, but he'll be good for it, so it's really $160.00. I wasnt sure what kind of response we'd get, so I've held off making my contribution until I saw how it went.....to see if it would be possible to close the difference if we got close enough.
SO FROM HERE......it's time to get our panel of experts together: THIS MEANS YOU ON THE FOLLOWING LIST:

Mr. Mario
Marc Pujol
St. Steven
Falafel Frank
Your decision is necessary, needed and final! Please get together, email, phone or otherwise, how about a big party this thursday night!!!!, congregate, deliberate, jibberjabberbate, commiserate, masterbate, whatever ya have to do to make a decision by a due date...a super date....hmmmmm....wait....wait for it....SUPERBOWL SUNDAY....someone of that group please post on this site during half-time, the conclusion of the panel: specific recommendations of a specific model make brand of equipment, with recommendations to go new vs. used or rebuilt, etc.... Hint: If we were able to raise 160-200 without trying, just use commonsense but consider it financially feasible. Of course, if anyone has any ideas, suggestions, comments, etc...please feel free to post here, or contact me or any of the panel members directly! Thank you! This has been a Splintered Sunlight service announcement!

Nice but that 512MB SD card's gonna hafta be replaced by something bigger, so budget a little coin for that too. Seems like a nice little unit, though I'm no expert. Not on this topic anyway ;-)

Please don't anyone get the wrong impression here regarding my overall financial status, but right now I've got 8 $20 bills rattling around in my pocket. $90 of that was the result of some very lucky football picks in the Stevie Wags season-long "pick the winners" pool. Joey - if you are going to be in the house tonight (The First Church of Brownie's - Splintered congregation), let's get this done !!! Tell me what you need to bring this to closure. :-D :-D
